As a busy October ends, Becoming Eddie will be screening virtually in November with festivals both new and familiar.

Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival

From Festival Director Selena Yip: “PAAFF turns 13 this year. The festival has officially become a teenager, not quite yet an adult, and we are still learning, growing, and discovering what makes us who we are. And while we are going through this process of change and growth, we hope we’re able to influence and inspire the positive changes we wish to see in the world. With this in mind, we’ve built this year’s festival program to reflect our growth as an organization and to reflect how we view our role in this world.”

bentonville film festival, November filmmaker retreat

Bentonville Film Festival has invited Becoming Eddie back to screen virtually as part of their 2020 Virtual Filmmaker Retreat.

“BFFoundation is a non-profit organization focused on promoting underrepresented voices of diverse storytellers. We want to amplify female, LGBTQ+, people of color, and people with disabilities in entertainment and media. We do this through research, education, and supporting the production and distribution of inclusive content.”

HOLLYshorts film festival

We’re excited to be selected to another Academy Award qualifying film festival.

“HollyShorts Film Festival is an organization devoted to showcasing the best and brightest short films from around the globe, advancing the careers of filmmakers through screenings, networking events, and various panel and forums. The HollyShorts Film festival showcases the top short films produced 40- minutes or less.”

POrtland Film Festival – October 12-18

Sponsored by Comcast NBC Universal, PDXFF was listed by MovieMaker Magazine as “One of the Coolest Film Festivals in the World.” Portland Film festival is dedicated to bringing a broad diversity of independent voices together on one stage. The festival will take place online, On Demand via Xfinity, and in Portland Oregon’s Hi-Lo Hotel, where you can rent a screening pod!

CAAMFest – October 14-18

CAAMFest is in its 40th year, with live virtual screenings, on-demand screenings, and drive-in screenings at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. We are a very big fans of CAAM! From their website: “The Center for Asian American Media is a nonprofit organization dedicated to presenting stories that convey the richness and diversity of Asian American experiences to the broadest audience possible.”

BOSTON ASIAN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL – October 21-November 1

Because of Ed’s ties to Boston and Emerson College, BAAFF is a homecoming of sorts. The 12th annual Boston Asian American Film Festival will be completely virtual this year, with Becoming Eddie available On Demand from October 22 through November 1 with the Alternative Realities Shorts Program. “BAAFF, New England’s Largest Asian American Film Festival, empowers Asian Americans through film by showcasing Asian American experiences and serving as a resource to filmmakers and the Greater Boston Community. BAAFF is a co-production of the Asian American Resource Workshop and ArtsEmerson.”

Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival

Come see us at another virtual festival! Becoming Eddie will screen as an official selection in the 36th Annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival , presented by Visual Communications, which runs from September 21 to October 31, 2020.

From the LAAPFF press release:

“The Festival, which last week announced the shift to the Fall and the first set of confirmed films, is pleased to present the works of more than 225 filmmakers across five weekends, including 24 short film world premieres and 3 feature film world premieres.

“The largest festival of its kind in Southern California, LAAPFF is also a proud Academy Award®-qualifying film festival for the Short Film Awards. In a season where anti-Asian American sentiment and violence is alarmingly on the rise, LAAPFF’s programming hopes to mobilize and engage audiences towards social activism and civic engagement – a cornerstone that is part of the Festival’s foundation. This year’s productions by Asian American & Pacific Islander artists from across the globe will amplify themes, including race, immigration, gentrification/economic security, and the upcoming US election. The Festival will be presented online to stay in guidelines that protect the health and safety of the Festival community.

“‘2020 marks the 50th Anniversary for Visual Communications,’ said Francis Cullado. ‘The organization was born because our founders began searching for visual resources to build a greater consciousness of Asian Pacific history in America. Fueled by the burgeoning Civil Rights and Anti-War movements, they set out creating learning kits, photographing community events, audiotaping stories, and collecting historical images of Asian Pacific American lives. I am proud that we are able to present another edition of LAAPFF, and that this year’s lineup centers select conversations that are most urgent to our communities here in America.‘”

Dances with Films

We’re happy to announce that Becoming Eddie is an Official Shorts Competition Selection for Dances With Films! Ranked one of the Top Ten North American Film Festivals by USA Today and one of Film Freeway’s Top 100 Reviewed Film Festivals, DWF is a highly selective festival with a very independent sensibility.

DWF will be online this year due to COVID-19, and their festival is LIVE, meaning that the virtual screenings will only take place on Sunday, August 30 at 2:45 p.m. PT / 5:45 p.m. ET, and Thursday, September 3 at 4:00 p.m. PT / 7:00 p.m. ET. Select cast and crew will be a part of a live Q&A after each screening.

In May, Becoming Eddie screened online at both the Chicago Comedy Film Festival and the D.C. Asian Pacific American Film Festival.

We are proud to announce that we will be screening in the Shorts Competition at Bentonville Film Festival.

From Bentonville Film Festival’s Press release on July 22: “The Bentonville Film Foundation today announced their spotlight and competition program of independent feature films, shorts, and episodic titles for the 2020 Bentonville Film Festival, August 10-16. Co-founded by Academy Award®-winning actor Geena Davis, and supported by Founding Sponsor, Walmart and Presenting Sponsor, Coca-Cola, BFF is a one-of-a-kind event, uniquely dedicated to championing underrepresented voices in film, entertainment and media. The 6th annual film festival will be presented as a hybrid structure, pairing digital screenings, panels and events alongside select on-the-ground premieres and conversations.”
